Selection and Design

In order to keep in line with our vision to create sustainable furnishings,The slate is sourced from the Welsh Slate Penrhyn Quarry Site where the off-cut waste from the manufacturing of their products is purchased.

The slate is bought by the tonne and Tom goes through by hand to identify the pieces that he feels brings the most natural felling.

Once the sale is at the workshop, each piece is analysed by Tom, who envisions which product best showcases the rocks beauty and natural essence. When selected, the  design process begins to bring the vision to life - the characteristics and uniqueness of the rock are meticulously considered, so that the beauty of the natural material is celebrated.

No matter what the product, the components involved are carefully chosen so that they complement the aesthetic of the piece; as well as instilling a high level of quality to stand the test of time.

Craftmanship

Before any alterations are made, significant thought is applied to ensure that the rock is handled with the utmost care, to preserve the authenticity of the natural form. This is achieved by the types of tool used and methods in which the pieces are worked on.

The attention to detail during this process is vital in safeguarding the purity of the material and celebrating its beauty. From the way in which the rock is drilled, cut and chiselled, to how the final product is put together, the precision of the workmanship applied is paramount in making the piece feel as natural a possible.
